Effect of Pirenzepine on Inhibition of Gastric Ulcer Formation in Rats

Abstract
|
|
|
The present study was carried out to assess the effect of pirenzepine on aspirin induced_ gastric mucosal lesion in rats.
The following results were obtained:
1) Pirenzepine significantly reduced the mucosal lesions produced by intraperitoneal injection of aspirin.
2) Pirenzepine increased the pH of gastric juice and decreased the gastric acid output.
3) Pirenzepine increased the total protein and sialic acid of the gastric juice.
4) The effect of pirenzepine on DNA content of gastric mucosa was not significant.
We concluded that pirenzepine may have protective effect on aspirin-induced mucosal lesions in rats.
